Timeline (1987-Date)

1987

Colin Gibb  Works live again with Black Lace, whilst Alan Leaves to join 70s hit band‘ 'Smokey'’ - Dean now becomes official partner (member) of Black Lace - Band release single ‘'Jammin the Sixties’' under the name ‘'Barracuda'’  single gets BBC Radio One 'record of the week', but fails to hit the charts.

1989

Summer season at Blackpool Tower and the release of '‘Music Man',’ Although extremely popular, problems with distribution ensures, record only reaches number 52 in UK chart.

1990

Black Lace, return to Blackpool for second summer season at the Tower -  Col and roadcrew spend night at ‘'Chingle Hall'’ (one of Britain's most haunted houses) for charity, Dean refuses to attend! - endorsement deal with ‘Shadow’ guitars and ‘Torque’ amplifiers.

1991

Due to personal problems, and contracts not allowing for time off, Dean forced to leave Black Lace, and ‘'Rob Hopcraft’' auditions as Session singer. Manager, John Wagstaff is unconvinced by Rob’s performance, but after talks with Col, reluctantly accepts Rob. - Band release single ‘'Penny Arcade'’ written by close friend ‘'Sammy King’' originally a hit for ‘'Roy Orbison'’- Appear on BBC’s ‘'Children in need'’ - Dean forms new band and uses the name ‘'Barracuda'’ but shortly disband.

1992

Black Lace tour Australia, Rob unimpressed with ‘'Hits’ Album' released by Australian record company, as it features photo of. Col with Dean - Spend time in Hong Kong after tour, - shows in Germany and Holland - Black Lace becomes. ’Limited Company’

1994

Black Lace Release single ’'Bullshit'’ which is an alternative version of the song ‘'Cotton Eyed Joe'’ but beaten into the charts by Swedish band ‘'Rednecks’' - Endorsement deal with ‘Dean’ Guitars. - Release album ‘'Saturday Night’'

1995

Tragic events in Germany - Alan Barton dies as a result of bus crash whilst touring with Smokey - Funeral held at Wakefield Cathedral  - Alan’s wife, Jacky, snubs Alan’'s close friends, and refuses to attend wake. which is attended by many of Alan’s close friends and colleges.

Video Shoot for the single ‘'Electric Slide'’ in Benidorm (first video not to be filmed in UK) - Also play TVAM live from Tolomolinos in Spain

1996

 Black Lace play ‘one off’ show at D.J conventions in Canada and Atlantic City USA - Release ‘'Action Party'’ and '‘Best of’' albums - Col presented with special 'Dean ‘Agadoo’' Guitar to celebrate bands 20th anniversary.

1997

August 15th, special ‘'Agadoo day’'   Black Lace Play 20 shows in 24 hours in Manchester, London, Watford, Northampton, Sheffield, Barnsley, Wakefield, Leeds and finishing at the '‘Frontier'’ club. Batley- Event raises over Twenty five Thousand pounds for `Marie Curie` cancer care. - '‘Peugeot’' use ‘Agadoo´ in TV ad for new. 106 model car - Black Lace release ‘'Agadoo 106 Mix’' which hits the charts for one week,During radio interview, the presenter embarrassingly forgets Col’s name and refers to him as, ‘Mr. Agadoo’ which seems to stick.

1999

Big Media attention at Black Lace charity 'reunion' concert, organised by ex drummer, Terry Dobson, to celebrate 20 years, since Representing UK in Eurovision song Contest (Coincidently, this year the contest was again, held in Jerusalem, Israel)- Alan Barton’'s son, '‘Dean'’ takes Alan'’s place with the band - Steve Scholey refuses to attend.- Also on stage with the band, is 'Ian Haworth' - Show is Opened by, Terry'’s band '‘Aircrew' followed by the ‘'Reunion Band'’ and the night closed by, 'Colin and Rob'.

2000

Rob, tiring from constant touring, quits, in an attempt to work from home, on media advertising, and singing lessons, but eventually having to return to, singing, in local social and working men’s clubs. - 'Camille & Katie' become the first girls to perform live, with Black Lace - Release single ‘'Follow the leader'’ - Col asked to join ‘Eagles’ tribute band, the ‘'B-Eagles'’ playing bass, Initially for one month, ‘'un-plugged'’ tour, but is asked to stay permanently.  Band also managed for a short time by John Wagstaf.- Unfortunately, working with both Black Lace and B-Eagles, it becomes near impossible, to fulfil both act’s contracts.

2002

Col, decides he’s had enough of the UK, and relocates to Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, - Now Scemi-retiered, Col plays the original ‘'Black Lace'’ Party shows, in hotels and restaurants, on the island, - Occasionally visiting UK for 'TV appearances Etc.

2003

Release in Tenerife, of the lost ‘'Blue’ album', originally recorded in UK, by Col & Dean, and featuring, ‘Adult’ lyrics, but banned by 'NOW Music', before its release.

2004

Colin, takes Black Lace show to Mainland Spain, to play resident at '‘The King Lives On'’ cabaret bar, on the Costa Blanca. - Problems with venue, after it is sold to new owner, after just several months, and Col decides to move back to Tenerife.

2005'

'Black Lace' show back in Tenerife.

2006

Once again, Col returns to the Costa Blanca, with the all new '‘Black Lace Roadshow'’ a four hour show featuring, comedian ‘'Garry Baldy' and 'DJ Richie'.- Show plays through the summer, before returning to Tenerife.

2007

Col, returns briefly to UK to Marry Fiancé, Sue, In Reading, attended by a few close friends. Then back to Tenerife for the reception Party.

2008

Col, Asked to Join, local Five piece rock band ‘'It’s Immaterial’' (Later changing name to 'The Phoenix) Playing bass, and, Two spin off Duos, featuring members of the band. As well as performing the ‘Black Lace show.

2009

Due to the ‘credit crunch’, and less holiday makers visiting Tenerife, Col takes time to have, well deserved break from Black Lace shows. But continues to play with Band and Duos -  Ex-Black Lace member, Dean Michael, now living in Benidorm, release ‘Unofficial’ recording of Updated 'Agadoo',  Although the project gets plenty of media attention, is criticised as being ´dated´ the record, not unexpectedly, fails to see the light of day & Dean returns to UK.

2010.

 The 'Blue' album, available on world wide, Digital Distribution via; I.Tunes, Amazon, Reverbnation etc. - 'Its Immaterial' changes name to 'The Poenix'

2011.

Dean records new version of 'Do the Conga' alongside 'Trainline' TV ad, but single flops.

2012.

Col asked to play Bass guitar, with top Tenerife blued band 'Traveler' as well as playing 'Phoenix' and 'Black Lace' shows

1013.

Col sets up 'Rainbowsound Guitars' as a service to set up and re-fret guitars for local mucisians, and forms trio 'The Brew'' with musicians from 'The Phoenix. (Sadly Drummer, Kevin Alan, died later the same year)

2014,

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Agadoo",  limited edition ‘Black Lace Live Beach Party’ album, available, which was recorded and mixed in Tenerife.

 2015,

Dene Michael auditioned for the reality TV show, The Voice, However, he failed to progress beyond the 'blind auditions' stage.

November 2015, Black Lace release, the very up tempo "Agadoo (The Space Mix)" and an embarrassing TV ad for ‘Walkers’ crisps, features Black Lace tribute act ‘Old Lace’ fronted by, Dean, alongside football star Gary Lineker, is shown on British TV.

 

 2016.

More embarrassing TV, as Dean, Apparently broke, appears on TV court reality show, ‘Judge Rinder’ being sued by his wife.

Dean Michael is Charged with fraud, and jailed for six months for claiming 25,000 pounds in disability allowances.

Colin Gibb and Guitarist / Vocalist/ Comedien,, Gordon King, hit the road working no less than seven shows a week, and making the 'Original Black Lace' a duo again,

2018.

The 'Original Black Lace'  are nominated the prestigious 'Tenerife Entertainment Awards' Best Group.

2020.

8th May, Sadly Robert Hopcraft passed away, Thought to be the result of a fall.

In remembrance of Alan, who passed away 25 years ago. the Black Lace ‘Reunion’ band consisting of; Ian Howarth, Terry Dobson, Colin Gibb and Dean Barton (Alan’s son), re make a music video of the band’s 1979 Eurovision hit ‘Marry Ann’ Under strict lockdown conditions, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, The recording was done individually from their respective homes in The UK, Tenerife and Gozo then mixed together by Ian. Within a week the video had over 18000 views on social media

2022.

Due to serious back problems, Gordon King stands down from live shows with Black Lace.

2023.

Due to diferencies, Dean if fired by Record company/Bands management.
